Silent Peace Walks is a participatory movement dedicated to supporting transformation and peace among individuals, relationships, and communities using the universal language and practice of silence
SILENT peace walks
Silent Peace Walks can be gatherings of 10 or 100,000. All you need is a group of people who are willing to adhere to the principles of practicing inclusion, staying agenda-free, and maintaining silence. While individuals and groups will always bring their specific backgrounds and world views with them, in this space, it is silence that is the teacher, language, and practice we use. As such, we gather as people, not as our causes or identities, to share a space that prioritizes being peaceful and bringing that peace into all we do, including the causes and interests we may usually promote.
We are ordinary people appealing to ordinary people for a change of heart. You may begin with a few people who commit to participating in the Walk, and we encourage you to invite others and welcome anyone who wants to join along the route.
We walk. Together.
We listen to silence. Together.
We share our experiences. Together.
We welcome everybody.
Silent Peace Walks held its first North American gathering in 2012 in Central Park, New York City to demonstrate that peace is won by peacefulness. The silence of that walk was so potent and unifying that a broader vision was inspired to co-create spaces to practice peacefulness and transcend specific agendas or causes. We seek to build a grassroots movement that is grounded in the strength and potential of silence.
The powerful affect of these walks has led to the greater vision of having a year of Silent Peace Walks, so that every day for one year there is a group having a Silent Peace Walk somewhere on the planet.
We will be launching the 365 Silent Peace Walks in Baltimore on the first International Silent Peace Walks Day - May 7, 2017!
Join us in launching a worldwide movement. We welcome your active involvement –-your contributions of energy, skills, and ideas-- as participants, organizers, and/or facilitators of Silent Peace Walks activities.
Download one of our organizer kits and start your own walk - it can be large or small, bringing different communities together or with friends after dinner. Share your experiences and spread the word through your groups and communities.
